Vipul Garg, a doctoral student in materials science at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, completed his Bachelor of Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2023. During his time at IIT Delhi, he got an opportunity to work in the lab of Prof. Mangala Joshi on “Conductive Polymer Nanocomposites for Flexible Wearable Electronics”. For his outstanding academic performance, he was awarded the Director’s Undergraduate Merit Award and Scholarship, an award given to the top 7% of meritorious students. Apart from academics, he was actively involved in many social activities, including An Initiative for (India’s) National Advancement (AINI). AINA’s activities range from weekly teaching of kids in an underprivileged neighborhood, weekly discussions on topics of social and national interest, to five-to-seven day biannual trips to rural and semi-urban parts of India to understand ground realities, and witness the work done by various grassroots organizations. He was also actively engaged in a fund collection drive on the IIT Delhi campus to help those with unstable (and low-paying) jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vipul loves to spend time with nature and practice Rajyoga Meditation to build a positive attitude towards everything and develop new responses.
