David Mwesigye Tumusiime holds a PhD in Environment and Development Studies. He has a strong interest in the social development issues associated with natural resource management including in efforts for in-situ conservation, with special consideration of the livelihoods of rural forest-dependent and indigenous people, benefits and costs sharing, and the functioning of interventions meant to integrate conservation and development. His work typically draws on perspectives from a variety of fields including sociology, economics, and political ecology. He is Director of the Makerere University Biological Field Station and is a part-time farmer.
