Soyeon Jeon

Soyeon is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at WashU. She focuses on analyzing public opinion in politics using an advanced technical methodology. She aims to examine new media’s impact on public opinion formation and political persuasion. She also investigates how emotion and political sophistication take part in the political persuasion of the polarized through statistics-based surveys and experimental research methods. Her research interests lie in public opinion, political communication (emotions in politics and new media), political participation, and computational social science (natural language processing and sentiment analysis). She double majored in Political Economy and Philosophy and Business Administration at Seoul National University (SNU) receiving her Bachelor’s degree. She received her Master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from SNU in 2022. Soyeon worked as a journalist on a political communication platform OXOpolitics and as a product manager in a deep learning-based sleep tech company, Asleep. Soyeon likes to jog, enjoys watching videos starring cute animals, and talks with people about their work and experiences. Recently, she started learning how to play the guitar.
