Ty Vaughn serves as a member of the Research and Development (R&D) Leadership Team as Head of Plant Biotechnology for the Crop Science division of Bayer. Based in St. Louis, Ty leads a global team to develop a robust plant biotechnology pipeline, leading to new products for growers. In his previous role as Head of Regulatory Science, his responsibilities included leading a global team ensuring the safety of our products by delivering science-based risk assessments and gaining regulatory approvals in an increasingly regulated environment.
With a passion to discover and bring to market innovative agricultural solutions for farmers worldwide, Ty brings over 20 years of experience and insights to the Bayer R&D team. Prior to joining Bayer in 2018, Ty built his career at Monsanto, starting with the company in 1999. He held several research and executive positions at Monsanto within their Technology and U.S. Commercial organizations. Prior to joining Monsanto, he held a postdoctoral position at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Missouri. Ty graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Kent State University, a Master of Science in Entomology from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. in Ecological Genetics from Colorado State University.
Ty is a Distinguished Science Fellow in Monsanto’s Technology Community and received the Queeny award, Monsanto’s highest recognition for achievement in science. He is also a St. Louis Academy of Science Fellow, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Colorado State University and was honored with the St Louis Academy of Science Trustee Award.
