Washington University is a medium-sized, independent university dedicated to challenging its students and faculty to seek new knowledge and greater understanding of an ever-changing, multicultural world. The University attracts students and scholars from across the United States and from approximately 130 nations to St. Louis, Missouri, a metropolitan region with more than 2.6 million people in the center of the United States. St. Louis is where two of the nation's greatest rivers — the Mississippi and Missouri rivers — meet.
Washington University in St. Louis serves society through its programs of education, research, and service. More than 90 programs and nearly 1,500 courses lead to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a broad spectrum of traditional and interdisciplinary fields, with additional opportunities for minor concentrations and individualized programs.
The Danforth Campus — a beautiful combination of new and renovated Collegiate Gothic buildings on about 170 acres — is home to six of the University's seven academic divisions. The Medical Campus, about 60 acres, houses the acclaimed School of Medicine. With its other satellite facilities, the University occupies more than 2,200 acres of land and 150 major buildings throughout the St. Louis area.
